The Tanzanian government has announced 11500 teachers in various subjects, including science, in the 2024/25 academic year. This is part of the government’s efforts to address the shortage of teachers in the country and improve the quality of education. The recruitment process will be overseen by the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, in collaboration with PO-RALG, has developed a system for teachers’ employment application known as Mfumo wa Maombi ya Ajira ya Walimu (OTEAS). The system aims to make the recruitment process more efficient and transparent, enabling teachers to apply for jobs online and track the status of their applications. The system also aims to reduce corruption in the recruitment process by making it more objective and merit-based.
The government’s efforts to hire more teachers are crucial in improving the quality of education in Tanzania. With the shortage of teachers, many schools have been forced to operate with a high student-to-teacher ratio, which negatively impacts the quality of education.
